Obsession is deadly. Obsession over magic is even deadlier. “The Prestige,” starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale, is the epitome of how an obsession can completely change every aspect of your life. It affects you and everyone around you for the worse.
In this film, two men start out as assistants to a magician. They are partners in their work until an attempted trick goes wrong, creating bitter hostility between them. This is the beginning of their lifelong combat against each other. They set out to be the most awe-inspiring magicians, both always trying to sabotage and outdo each other. But what starts out as a fight to be the best magician rapidly turns into a battle of the most brutal nature.
This is a story of love, hate, morality, and mystery. As the movie plays on, the characters unfold and prove to be far more complex and unexpected than imaginable. Your mind will be in a whirl of curiosity and intrigue until the intricate puzzle is finally unraveled in the end. Never has there been a film quite like this one. But in this movie you must remember, as with all magic, nothing is what it seems.
