The Da Vinci Drama
By Stephen Jacobs

Flipping through the channels on a Sunday morning, I usually see a lot of church programs. I do not think of myself as a highly religious person or anything, but every once in a while I stop to see what is happening. The amazing thing is that usually all of them are telling me to accept their religion into my life and I can live it to the fullest.

However, this past week and during the week either on the Morning Show or the internet there is something about Dan Brown’s book, The Da Vinci Code. My fascination with this is how many religious groups have become upset about the book and the movie. My question is why are so many people taking offense to this movie and book. The book has sold millions, and is one of the largest selling books in years. I know it is upsetting to see people reading, but come on people. It doesn’t matter what they are reading as long as they are reading, right?

The most upsetting thing about these programs are how offended they are to religion. Books are even being published in order to refute the statements made in The Da Vinci Code. Programs and websites identify this book as attacking the Catholic religion and trying to say it is disputing the bible. So, if everyone could calm down for a second and do a small favor for me. It’s not hard, I promise. Go to a book store and find the book. Look at the title of the section you find it. It is in the fiction section. The book does not claim to be real, but states that the works of art are.

So, if everyone could be so kind as to calm down and realize that movies and books are made to be enjoyed. They are only historical documents if they are found in history books, So please, do not make the book or movie into something it isn’t.(Back to top)
