Special Report on PPCC Safety Procedures
School Security
After the Virginia Tech shooting, as with any catastrophic loss of human life, many questions were raised. The public wanted to know how such a horrible thing could happen. Why did it take so long for police to respond? Why weren’t security measures in place to deal with an incident like this? Who messed up, and what needs to be done about it? Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on the perspective, mass shootings are not all that common, especially on college campuses...more

PPCC & Safety
There are some basic things students, faculty, and staff should know about safety and PPCC. In light of the recent Virginia Tech tragedy some people may be worried about their personal safety and may be considering carrying a weapon with them for their own personal protection...more

Thursdays at 3 Discusses School Safety
Since the Virginia Tech tragedy, the all important question of school safety has been raised again. The bi-weekly current events forum, Thursdays at 3, decided to discuss school safety. It started by discussing the events and Virginia Tech but soon moved onto the safety at PPCC. With the question, what is our plan at PPCC...more
Pass Me a Towel
Anyone using the PPCC restrooms has noticed that they no longer have the choice between paper towels and the hand dryer. They may also have noticed the green signs where the paper towel dispensers used to be that read, “PPCC is going green.” This may have left them pondering as to why PPCC is going green. Dr. Kinkel, PPCC President explains the four reasons involved in this decision.

The first, PPCC is making a commitment to reduce environmental degradation. It is obvious that paper towels produce solid waste and kill trees. What students may not have realized is that the trash bags used to contain these paper towels are petroleum based. Several trash bags per day per bathroom were being used. So, not only is PPCC saving paper towels, but petroleum as well...more

Police Force or Police Farce
July, 2006. With the gut rumbling thump of an explosion I transformed from REM sleeping baby to pistol wielding Marine in less than 10 seconds. At the time I didn’t know what was going on, but I reacted with the quickness of a paranoid man living among the enemy. I found out later that the explosion was an Iraqi Police car vaporized by an insurgent’s RPG. The pistol I immediately grabbed was the loaded Glock that stayed under my pillow at night as a defense against assassination by Iraqi Police...more

“I feel perfectly safe here. Something like that can happen at anytime.”
“I feel safe; I don’t want to live being scared of anything.”
“I think it’s just a secluded incident. I feel safe here, no problem”
“I feel safe here NOW, yes I feel safe here.”

America the Depressed
America is hated by most of the world. Why? Is it because of our success technologically and economically? Maybe. Could it be because we’re seen as snobs, staring at other countries down our noses? Possibly. I could name off a few other reasons why a modern day Rome would be on the world’s most wanted list, but for a country where wealth and entertainment are the epicenter of our culture, it’s a very unfortunate place to be...more

Wouldn't You Know?
Did you know that there are 206 bones in the adult human body and there are 300 in children (as they grow some of the bones fuse together).

Flea's can jump 130 times higher than their own heights. In human terms this is equal to a 6ft. person jumping 780ft. into the air.

The most dangerous animal in the world is the common housefly. Because of their habits of visiting animal waste, they transmit more diseases than any other animal.
