SG Referenda C and D Support
By Matthew Maloney

During the Wednesday, Oct. 12 Student Government meeting, SG officials discussed Referenda C and D that wil be voted on in the state Nov. 1 election. SG’s main focus concerned the Student Government’s position on Referenda C and D. SG Senator Robert Windemuller suggested that the two refenda referendum should be contemplated separately.

After some discussion, the motion was passed even though D means nothing if C doesn’t pass. Essentially, Referendum C will suspend the state government’s spending cap as specified by Tabor, and D states how the money can be allotted and used.

During discussion, SG Vice President Mike Reyes said, “Whatever decision we make, we have to make it on what is best for the students and their beliefs. It doesn’t matter what our own beliefs are.” After many proposals, some of which were to take a position on C and not D, others were to support C and not D, and still others proposals were for both.

The final vote came and both referenda passed as separate issues. The final vote put the Student Government in support of C and D. Potentially an open forum is to be held for any students interested in learning more before they go to vote on Tuesday, November 1.

Before the meeting, SG officials met with the Danish students visiting PPCC during October. One student remarked that she found PPCC rather boring compared to her school in Biborg, Denmark. She said everything here was grayish and made of stone; whereas, their Biborg school was more colorful.

Student Government meets at 3 p.m. each Wednesday.
