Pithy Words of Wisdom:
People of differing points of view often have good ideas and bad ideas, but unless they learn to talk with each other, they may never know the difference.

The Basics of the Zodiac

What is astrology? Why are so many people completely into it? Astrology is literally, as per Google, defined as, “The study of the positions and aspects of celestial bodies in the belief that they have an influence on the course of natural earthly occurrences and human affairs.” There are several types including Chinese astrology. The actual practice dates back to ancient Assyria and has lived longer than most other religions...More
A Political Invasion of Mexico?

There is no secret what is happening within society these past few weeks. Immigrants from Mexico are pressuring reforms from Congress. This is a very sensitive subject in the eyes of modern day racism and prejudice, but the issue is being tackled...More
Television: The Final Frontier
The years between 1970 and 1985 were revolutionary to the freedom of the media as far as growth was concerned. Households were recovering from the economical crutches of the 1960’s during the Vietnam War and the world was becoming more liberated after the Cold War. The fast developing FM radio stations were growing at a truly speedy rate and the newspaper market, while declining, was becoming more interesting to the readers they still reached. Magazines were undergoing changes in their overall organization and the computer was being made available for the public in the late 1970’s. Television was the most dramatic provider of world events in the homes of working class America...More
The Political Career Of Richard Nixon
Richard M. Nixon's career seemed to thrive on paradox.

He was a man famous for his lack of personal grace, yet he became the only candidate in U.S. history who was twice elected both president and vice president.

Nixon was born in 1913 in Yorba Linda, California, and attended Whittier College and Duke University. When his school years were over he began practicing law, which eventually led to his political career. He married Patricia Ryan in 1940. In 1950, Nixon ran for the U.S. Senate in California and won a seat...More

Taking Action to Help Society
In our culture, having a job is important. The employee makes money to live on, the employer sells whatever the employee produces, and customers can buy those things. Having a job contributes to society. The unemployment rate for all over the United States is less than 5 per cent. If you pick out 20 people, only one of them will not have a job. But the unemployment rate for people with disabilities is 75 percent. In a group of 20 people who have disabilities, 15 would not have a job.

People with disabilities want to contribute to society just like everybody else. I decided I would try to do something about it. It turned out to be a tremendous experience...More
Discrimination

Although the issue of Christians discriminating against gays is very real, the stereotype that all Christians bash or discriminate against the gay community is untrue. A “true” Christian abides by “The Word” or the Bible. The Bible states that it is a sin to have homosexual relations. It also states to love one another just as God loves us and to not judge one another...More
Reaction to I-25 Expansion

I agree completely with David Ritts’s Letter to the Editor on the overdue expansion of I-25. I live north of Monument and I cannot stand to make the drive down I-25 to Colorado Springs because of all of the traffic issues. It seems every time I make the drive into Colorado Springs there is either an accident or traffic jam that backs up all of the traffic...More

So the world really is flat…

When walking down the Champ Elysees in Paris, I was not terribly surprised to stumble upon a McDonalds. The scene I found inside the restaurant was not really at all unlike what I would find inside the McDonalds on Academy Blvd. here in Colorado Springs. I thought to myself, how the world has grown so small that I am able to enjoy, if one really enjoys McDonalds, the same comfort that I find in my home town...More

Global Education
Have you looked at a globe lately? Perhaps as Americans our sense of global awareness has lessened greatly. In fact when administered a test of various countries locations, more Europeans knew where the United States of America is located than Americans. However, if the average American was asked about Brad Pitt’s relationship history, most Americans would know the entire story...More

Do we realize how lucky we are to be here?
All of us that attend this school have had some kind of good opportunity to better ourselves with post-secondary education. We have all graduated high school, and most of us work for what we have. Even those of us whose family cannot afford an education- even at a community college- can get some kind of aid from the state or loans....More

A Response to ‘Death Takes Living to Happen’
The author of the recent article ‘Death Takes Living to Happen’ brought up an interesting point: the author clearly believes that society is stifling, that it attempts to force people into neat little categories and casts aside those who resist. I disagree...More

Business in Black
After reading “Death Takes Reading to Happen” by Tracy Ransom, I was baffled. In modern America it is understood that clothing is a representation of personality. People dress how they want to be perceived, or else we would all conform to uniform...More

Inadequate to Uninsured
Health, smealth. Or at least that’s what I used to think, until recently. I’ve been bugging everybody around me with my complaints of my burning brain. Seriously, my head feels like I snorted a whole roll of Smarties. (The only reason I know what snorting Smarties is like is because we use to do it in grade school to make our snot turn colors - stupid, bored grade school kids…never mind.) Soon the burning spread to my neck and shoulders next came extreme fatigue and hot flashes…there’s more but there’s no need to share all of the gory details. So, I took a little trip to Student Health and they asked me to try a migraine medication. No luck. I made another stop by Student Health. This time, tests were ordered. They all came back normal...More
