How Smart Do You Think You Are?
By Jenna Mitchell

The average person, at their highest academic point of knowledge scores around 100 when taking an I.Q. test. Most people don’t know where on the scale they score, because most people have never been tested. I.Q. actually means Intelligence quotient. The actual scale itself is between 60 and 140, with the numbers above or below being extremely rare. 60 is the low point and 140 is the high point.

According to http://www.increasebrainpower.com/iq-scale.html, the scale is read like this:

140+ = genius or near-genius
120 -140 = very superior intelligence
110-119 = high intelligence
89 -109 = average intelligence
80 - 89 = dullness
70 - 79 = borderline deficient
-70 = retardation or mental deficiency

Also, according to http://wilderdom.com/intelligence/IQWhatScoresMean.html, 68% of the world falls between 85 and 115 while 96% falls between 70 and 130. Einstein was somewhere around 160. The scale actually reaches as far as 200, but the percentage of people in that category is so miniscule, they are extremely rare. In fact, at 125 to 135, the person in this category is smarter than 98% of people. On the other hand, there are upwards of 5 billion people on the planet, so 2% is a whopping high number.

Most I.Q. questions are not terribly difficult and test the levels of comprehension one possesses in mathematics, reading and common patterns. Most I.Q. tests themselves are around 35 to 75 questions where a person cannot use paper or anything else to help…just your brain. Using any device to “ace” it would only serve to cheat yourself. Here are some sample questions and their prospective sites, where you can check your I.Q. free! The answers are at the bottom of the article. This question is the first of 43 questions at http://www.funeducation.com/products/iqtest/

Be careful though with any IQ test, because all of these sites warn against taking it too seriously. Every test is different and a person will likely receive different scores. Most tests also come with a complimentary job suggestion. This is a list of jobs you are likely to be good at. Also, even with an extraordinary IQ, a person may not be successful due to any number of reasons, so even if you’re smart it’s no guarantee of success.
